Les Mis compared to how Malala Yousafzai warns of education gap for Syrian refugees
Les Mis has a lot of themes to the storyline of the play and one of them is Freedom. Freedom relates to the story about how Malala is trying to educate million of refugee children. Malala is the leader for a lot of children in Syria after she was shot in the head by the Taliban for campaigning for education for girls in Pakistan now she is still trying to raise awareness for the lack of education to the Syrian refugees. The number for Syrian girls who are already teenage brides, or working in farms and factories is rising fast. According to the Malala fund nearly half the roughly four million children displaced in the region are not in school. They risk becoming a :lost generation", Ms Yousafzai warned. "It's time for the world to match their commitment to get every Syrian child back in school," Malala sent in an email to the editor of the article. "My generation is not lost," she insists. But the longer Syrian children stay out of school, the greater the risk they will not return. According to the report by Malala's charitable fund, donors only provided 37% of the money needed to supply resources such as school places and teachers. As you can see Syria is trying everything they can do to help these Syrian children and not have a lost generation. But they need all the money they get because for a year of schooling they need $1.4bn to plug the gap. According to Malala neighbouring countries are already bearing too much of the cost of educating Syrian refugees. My opinion on everything is they really should make sure they educate these kids. Also Malala is such a wonderful young leader she is truly a blessing for many of people. But i also understand that it is very hard for them because of the money situation. I wish them all the best.

Syrian suicide bomber kills at least 10, many foreigners, in Istanbul
A ISIS terrorist blew himself up in a popular tourist district of Istanbul Tuesday January 12, 2016 killing at least 10 people and wounding at least 15 others. All of whom were foreigners and 9 of whom were German nationals. Other places were affected by the attack also because people from many different cultures were either killed or wounded. Peru's foreign ministry said the terrorist attack unfortunately killed a Peruvian man and wounded a Peruvian woman. At least 6 Germans were said to be wounded by the Turkish news agency Dogan reported, and Seoul's Foreign Ministry told reporters that one South Korean had a finger injury. The bomber was a 28-year-old Syrian national who wasn't on Turkey's terror watch list. Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus had a little confusion with the man because the perpetrator said the bomber was born in 1988 and was a Syrian national, but Dogan claimed the bomber was Saudi-born. "Turkey won't backtrack in its struggle against Daesh by even one step," Davutoglu said, referring to ISIS by its Arabic acronym. "This terror organization, the assailants and all of their connections will be found and they will receive the punishments they deserve."The U.S. condemned the "heinous attack" in "Istanbul's historic heart." The explosion, which could be heard from several neighborhoods near where the bomb was placed.It was placed at a park that is home to a landmark obelisk, some 25 yards from the historic Blue Mosque. The explosion went off approximately 10:20 a.m. local time, according to the Hurriyet newspaper. Erdem Koroglu was working at a nearby office when the explosion happened. "It was difficult to say who was alive or dead," Koroglu said. "Buildings rattled from the force of the explosion." Turkey has already suffered from 2 major bombing attacks last year. More than 30 people were killed in an ISIS suicide attack in the town of Suruc, near Turkey's border with Syria, in July. Two suicide bombs in October 2015 outside Ankara's main train station as people gathered for a peace rally killed more than 100 people. It was Turkey's deadliest attack. Last month, Turkish authorities arrested 2 suspected ISIS militants they said were planning suicide bombings during the New Year's celebrations in the capital. My thoughts on everything is that it's very sad to hear about all these suicide bombers because we have already seen a lot when it comes to the suicide bombers working for ISIS. It's bad enough they are even trying to bomb places during the holidays. It's a very sad topic to talk about and to read about.

First dish is very popular in Syria and its called Falafel is most often served in Syrian flatbread, with pickles, tahina, hummus, sumac, cut vegetable salad and often, Shatta, a hot sauce, the type used depending on the origin of the falafel maker. shawarma is usually made with lamb or chicken meat. Falafel is made from fava beans or chickpeas, or a combination of the two. The use of chickpeas is predominant in most Middle Eastern countries. The dish is usually made with chickpeas in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine. I personally would not eat this because it involves a lot of foods I don't like.
Next dish is a popular dessert they serve in Syria called Baklawa which is crunchy yet velvety heavenly layers of buttery flakes and flavored nuts it's the perfect combination for a special treat! Syrians make dozen varieties of Baklawa. The most common one is the one I'm going to be showing you now. Ingredients include phyllo dough, finely chopped walnuts or pistachio, sugar, recipe of Ater (syrup), rose water (optional), unsalted butter (melted), and a pinch of salt. To make it you preheat the oven to 350 and do all the directions it gives then put it in the oven for 30-40 minutes until sides are yellow-brown! Keep in a dry cool place, lasts about a week before you have to throw away. Makes 20-25 pieces. I personally think this sounds pretty good and would really like to make it sometime and try it!!
The final dish from Syria is a popular breakfast they would have called Halaweh Tehiniyeh it is normally served with Syrian cheeses and Arabic flat bread. But the picture above is the Halaweh Tehiniyeh and cheese wrap sandwich. Its made with with Arabic flat bread and Jebneh Bida Baladiyeh (local Syrian white cheese) and the Halaweh Tehiniyeh. Very simple meal to make. All you do is roll out the bread and put the sliced meat and cheese in the middle and wrap it up. This is something i think i could easily eat as a snack and i would definitely make this!!

France strikes ISIS targets in Syria in retaliation for attacks
As you may already have heard there was terrorist attacks in Paris that was named by ISIS meaning ISIS was the one who did everything to Paris. So to get revenge France bombed the Syrian city of Raqqa on Sunday night only 2 days after the attack on Paris that killed 129 people on Friday night. While France had been conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State in Iraq, there was bombing in Syria only sparingly, wary of inadvertently strengthening the hand of President of Syria Bashar al Assad by killing his enemies. After all the militants with AK-47 rifles and bombs on Friday night France seemed intent on sending a clear message of its determination to curb the Islamic State and its ability to carry out attacks outside the territory it controls. The French Defense Ministry said in a statement about the air raid that they coordinated with American forces, was led by 12 French aircraft, including 10 fighter jets, and had destroyed two Islamic State targets in Raqqa. The U.S provided the French officials with information that helped them strike the Islamic State targets in Syria, known as "strike packages," American officials said. But as France was doing all of these things to get back at ISIS they still were trying to find the other suspect of the shootings. Because they believe there was a total of 8 men that was involved with the shootings. 7 of the 8 men committed suicide either by shooting or blowing themselves up. As of today they are still trying to find the last shooter. My feelings towards everything is very hurt and remorse for all families and friends of those people who died Friday night in Paris. But when it comes to how France did that to Syria. I feel like France did the right thing because The Islamic State deserve what they got because they should not just go out and kill hundreds of people for no reason. I also love how other countries leaders are coming to France and giving remorse to them like the U.S and Russia.
RIP to all the 129 people. Forever remembered.

This cartoon is designed by a Syrian Cartoonist by the name of Ali Ferzat. He is well known in Syria for his political cartoons. I choose this one in particular because i feel like i can easily understand what he was trying to point out in the cartoon. I feel like he's trying to say that just because a leader says they have the love of people they may not because you may never see what's on the end of the picture. All they have to do it drag people along and force them to do something against their own will. Don't trust all what you see from a picture. I love how the artist portrayed this cartoon!!

Syria Poses challenges for Putin
First and foremost, President Putin and other top Kremlin officials insisted that military victory in Syria was not Russia's real objective. If the Syria intervention provokes rather than prevents home-grown terrorism in Russia, Mr. Putin risks bearing part of the blame. President Putin told us that Russia's aim was to "liberate Syria from terrorists" and stop jihadists from the Islamic State group (IS) from taking over Damascus and then the entire country. Yet President Putin says that success cannot be partial - Syria partitioned and President Assad only in control of a rump state. But for the Russian government it is a useful backdrop for occasions like the annual Valdai meeting where President Vladimir Putin and other top Russian officials can showcase their views in exchanges with foreign scholars. This year the conversation was dominated by Syria and Russia's intentions there. Mr Putin gave another explanation: "One thing I learnt 50 years ago on the streets of Leningrad was that if a fight is inevitable, you need to land the first punch," he said pithily, offering a startlingly personal rationale for his Syria strategy. And that is where the first puzzle in Russia's Syria policy lies. "To liberate Syria we need to unite forces," he said, adding that Syria could become a new model of post Cold War collaboration.

Turkish air force reports it shot down unidentified drone
Turkey's air force shot down an unidentified aircraft - reportedly an unmanned drone - that entered Turkish airspace near the Syrian border, the Turkish armed forces said Friday in a statement. The drone was given three warnings by the Turkish military, but there was no response, Turkish officials said. All Russian aircraft returned from their combat missions in Syria, and Russian drones continue their aerial reconnaissance and "are functioning as planned," the Russian defense ministry said via Facebook. The origin of the drone is still unknown to officials but two U.S officials told CNN that the drone was from the Russians. Russia also recently entered the 4 1/2 year war that Syria is battling right now on the side of President Assad. Russia jets, in coordination with the Syrian regime, have conducted airstrikes against ISIS and other terrorist groups, broadly interpreted as opponents of the Assad regime. My reaction to it is I don't understand why all these countries are fighting and having all these wars when there doesn't need to be wars!
